3 Highly Visual--Interactive Activities "The Life Cycle of Flowering Plants" "Flower Anatomy" "Seed Dispersal" An online story about animals, their roles in their environments, and their interactions. This activity is great for struggling students. It's also good reading practice. In this game students match one animal with another animal of the same classification (ie: match a dog with a cat because both are mammals). Then students answer a question about what animals of that classification have in common. This is a simple game, but still a great way to quickly review basic animal classification. This would also be useful to work with special education students. Follow directions at the top of the screen--Habitats & Food webs A page with games, that explains the different types of food webs Click the buttons to help plants grow Drag animals to their correct habitat
Sound
Select Sound in the list
of labs. The illustration is animated and shows how clapping hands make
sound. Next, click on Exploring Pitch and Volume near the top of the
sound window. Strike the glasses hard & then gently to observe the
difference. Now look at the sound waves as you strike different glasses.
Click on the book in the bottom left corner to read about sound.
Changing Sounds
Changing sounds-Students compare sounds that musical instruments (guitar, drum, water bottle) make when the instrument is changed (string lengthened, drum tightened, more/less water) and when the instrument is used gently or strongly.
Motion/Force/Friction
Forces lab-
interactive for students to see the effects of force on an object
Friction Lab
Friction lab-interactive lesson where students change the surface of the track to increase or decrease distance traveled
Students take
measurements of how far a truck will travel depending on weight and
slope. These measurements are put into a table to see patterns.
Fun reader's
theater on friction--some materials required for props
A page with interactive
activities about food webs.
Set up a virtual aquarium
and try to create a good environment for three different fish.
This is a fabulous game
for students to use to practice identifying what need is being met by an
adaptation. The student can play over and over again each time
getting different sets of animals.
Challenging Food Web
Creation activity. Scroll down a little to find the food web game, and
click on start. Click on help to see the directions.
The student is able to
practice identifying the steps in the life cycles of a variety of
organisms. After completing the first one, students choose which
organism they want: Abalone, Lady Bug, Brine Shrimp, Butterfly,
Coconut, or Fern.
Note:
You may want to guide students to a specific organism based on the
online curriculum.
This is a great
interactive quiz/report on a cross-section of a tree. Students click on
the pencil to find the answer. Instructions are located beneath the
activity.
This site has excellent
background information and colorful labeled diagrams for the kids to
visualize what happens with the various cycles.
