SAT Test Preparation Tips

As the December SAT approaches, here are some tips that will help you to do your best on test day. Before Test Day Get organized:

  • Make sure you have two No. 2 pencils and a soft eraser. A No. 2 pencil is required to answer the essay and the multiple-choice questions. Mechanical pencils are not allowed. Pens are not allowed.
  • Have your SAT Admission Ticket and acceptable photo ID ready. You will need your Admission Ticket and photo ID for admission to the test center.
  • Check your calculator and put fresh batteries in it. You will need a scientific or graphing calculator for the SAT Reasoning Test™ and Subject Tests in Mathematics. Some questions on the Subject Tests in Mathematics are best solved with a graphing calculator.
  • Locate a watch to take with you. You can use a watch that has no audible alarm to time yourself—separate timers are not allowed.
  • Prepare snacks to bring with you. You may stow food and drinks under your chair or desk and consume them outside the testing room during breaks. A healthy snack will go a long way in keeping you alert during the entire test.

Also, you may find it helpful to download a handout (.doc/74KB) with similar information.

Develop a Career Portfolio using the Kuder Career Planning System

Career and Technology Education provides a career planning assessment program for students in Career and Technology Education classes. This is the first year it has been made available to all Rowlett High School students via the internet. A student can start the program in eighth grade, and continue to use the program during their high school career, and beyond graduation. Parent's can also reference the site with their child with any internet connection.

The career portfolio includes assessments to help the student plan for career development and education. The Kuder system also helps the student to

  • Plan for the future
  • Explore career clusters occupations
  • Search for a major and select a college
  • Learn about financial aid options, scholarships and the FAFSA

To use this program the student should contact a Career and Technology teacher, or stop by the counseling office to sign out a copy of the login instructions. The instructions include the school access code, and batch code numbers. There are a limited number of users for the RHS site, so the program is limited for use by Rowlett High School students. The Career and Technology Counselors can access data once students complete the survey. This data will help the counselors determine the classes in which students may have interest.
