The Austin Library/Media
Center's most important function is to support the school's
curriculum and to provide interesting and entertaining books for
both students and faculty. To achieve these services the library
includes a well rounded reference, biography, and nonfiction
collection, as well as a large and diverse fiction collection. In
addition, the library subscribes to over 30 news, education, and
entertainment magazines for patron check out.
Mission Statement
The mission of the
Austin Academy media center is to stimulate, guide, and support
students in their quest for information in a way that fully supports
curriculum and independent needs and facilitates critical thinking
so that students will become avid readers and lifelong learners.

Books
A diverse and constantly growing collection of author programs and
K-12 book-related materials that help literature come alive for
students and teachers. Resources include original movies about the
creative processes of authors and illustrators, audio excerpts of
professional book readings, and teaching guides and engaging
resources which span thousands of children's literature titles.

Library Use
Students are welcome to
come to the library before school on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday,
and Friday mornings at 8:00 a.m. Ms. Borland will pick up students
from the cafeteria at 8:00. The library is open Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 3:50-4:50 for student
research as well as for pleasure reading and check out. Students are
welcome to drop in and out of the library between classes as long as
they make it to their scheduled classes on time. During scheduled
class periods and homeroom, students must have a pass from a teacher
to come to the library. Students needing to use the computers for
research are required to sign in and out.
Checking out a book
Students are allowed to
check out 3 items at a time. Books are checked out for 2 weeks at a
time. Magazines will be checked out for 3 days, and reference books
will be checked out on as “as needed” basis. Due date slips will
always be available at the circulation counter when materials are
checked out.
Fines
A fine of 10 cents per
day (excluding weekends and holidays) per item is charged on overdue
books and magazines. The maximum charge is $2.00. Students will
receive 2 grace days in which to turn in overdue materials without
receiving a fine. On the third day, fines begin and include the two
grace days. Students will be required to pay the purchase price for
all lost books.
Printing
Students are allowed to
print single copies of materials needed for school assignments from
the library printer at no charge. Students are not allowed to print
personal materials from the library printer.
