Welcome to the Beaver Tales! An explanation and intro from Ms. Stark:

Welcome to Beaver Tales! This is the first edition of Beaver’s school newspaper, which has been written by students in the newly formed Newspaper Club. I am excited to start up another fun and challenging extracurricular activity for our Beaver Stars.

To give you some background on how the club began, it started before I entered my 4th grade classroom. Since writing for the newspaper was both fun and exciting for me, I wanted to share the same excitement I felt for writing with my students. Beaver Tales is a great opportunity for students to learn how to report in a variety of ways.

Initially, I thought only a handful of students would sign up, but it turned out that 44 of my 46 students responded! An application process began, which resulted in 16 students who showed the most interest, dedication, and creativity in their applications. I am proud of everyone who applied, and especially thankful to the 16 students who helped me start this club and gave Beaver Tales a personality of their own. Beaver Tales

Healthy Beaver Stars

Fourth graders are discussing health and the consequences of not taking care of yourself. One of the highlights of the unit was having Andrea Sullivan, an RN with Children's Medical Center of Dallas come out and discuss hand washing, coughing, and ways to protect both our students and our families. Several student volunteers got a crash course in hand washing. Who knew it was that difficult to keep your hands clean? The students rubbed a special lotion into their hands and then went to go wash. When they came back, Mrs. Sullivan had them put their hands under a black light where the lotion that was left behind GLOWED. It was a lesson for us all!

UNT Eagles in Training

In conjunction with our campus college day activities here at Beaver, Mrs. Teamann had several students who got really excited about her college, UNT. (Remember the green and gold mohawk from the home page?) Well, all of their talks escalated into their taking a Saturday field trip for a campus tour and to go to the UNT vs Navy football game. They even got to meet the President of the Education Board for the university!

Mrs. Charbonneau, our fabulous counselor and fellow UNT alum also joined in, :) along with several parents.

The group hiked back and forth across the campus and they were STILL just bouncing by the time they got to the UNT vs Navy game.

There were SO many compliments on their behavior, their questions...Beaver students are just SUCH great kids!!!

Field Trips Galore

One of the things that Beaver does best is FIELD TRIPS! We have so many different places we like to take our students! Here is just a sampling of where we've been...

Kickball fun!

One of the highlights of the Live Auction at this years Fall Carnival was the Student vs. Teacher kickball game. The top 10 student bidders got to play against the brave Beaver teachers November 2nd. The rest of the school was invited to watch and cheer on the teams. The teachers emerged victorious, BARELY, with a score of 10-9. Better luck next year students!

Carnival Carousing!

Our PTA, parents, and staff did a GREAT job with the Beaver 2007 Fall Carnival. We had a great time from the dunking booth, to the games, to the live auction. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped support our (YOUR!) school!
