Arts

Fine Arts at Club Hill STEM

All students participate in Music and Art classes once a week for 50 minutes. Many Fourth and Fifth graders participate in morning or after school clubs, such as Choir Club and Art Club. Every year, we select a great group of students, based on many factors including academics and behavior. We have a Night of the Arts event that we hold in the Spring, which includes music performances from different grade levels and an Art show that includes artwork from K-5th grades. We know the importance of Art and Music in education. In Garland, we want to educate the whole child and provide quality experiences in all campuses.

Art

Ms. Alfaro

Hello! My name is Ms. Alfaro, and I am the Art teacher here at Club Hill STEM Elementary. This is my fourth year here at Club Hill, and I am so excited to teach and enrich our students' learning about the art world. Students come to art class once a week for 50 minutes. We have the GISD Art District show that happens in the Spring of each year, where students from each grade level are selected. Additionally, we have our Night of the Arts which includes artwork from K-5th grades. Fourth and Fifth graders will have the opportunity to sign up for Art Club. Fifth grade will also have the opportunity to visit the Dallas Museum of Art in Downtown Dallas. I am pleased to be the art teacher here at Club Hill STEM and enjoy getting to know your kids and their creative talents.

Art Club

  • Members of the Art Club are required to maintain a 75% grade average and not have discipline problems in the classroom environment.
  • Art Club will provide the student with opportunities to increase their artistic skills and creativity as well as involve them in a worthwhile school activity.
  • We will participate in individual, school-wide, and community projects which will increase each student’s confidence as well as help develop a sense of school and community pride.

Music

Ms. Johnson

Hi there! My name is Kayla Johnson and I am a first year music educator at Club Hill STEM Elementary. I am so happy to be a part of the team at this school, and it has been a wonderful experience in start to my teaching career. I have a Bachelor of Music from New Mexico State University, where my hometown is, as well as a Master of Music from Missouri State University. I play violin and piano in addition to other musical instruments that I enjoy teaching regularly. I provide students at Club Hill with foundational music education instruction, which includes basic singing skills, as well as theory and ear training practice. My hope is to prepare them for their next step into music education and the middle school and high school levels, where they will have the opportunity to expand their experience in choir, band, or orchestra. Additionally, I offer 4th and 5th grade students the opportunity to participate in the Club Hill Honor Choir, where we explore vocal technique and a variety of advanced elementary choir repertoire. Regular performance activity comes with joining this ensemble. Thank you for taking the time to read this and learn a little more about what music entails at our school!

At Club Hill, our music kiddoes will sing, write, read, play, and think their way through every music class.  They will demonstrate improvisation and composition skills while collaborating within partner/small groups.  They will build upon specific musical literacy skills from one year to the next.  They will have an opportunity to showcase their skills throughout the year, through targeted musical performances.  Come listen to our singing Cougars!
