The Symphonic and Honors Bands competed in the UIL Concert/Sightreading contest at Richardson High School. We are proud to announce that both of our bands earned 1st division ratings in both categories. For our Honors Band, this was the 18th consecutive year that they earned a 1st division in the concert portion. This was the 1st time since 2005 that both bands were awarded the UIL Sweepstakes award.
The team of Blake Baker, Emily Snyder, Justin John and Lawrence Jackson won first place at state in Competitive Problem Solving. The team will advance to Nationals in June. Congratulations.

Maria Puente, a senior at Naaman Forest High School, is the first GISD student to earn National Finalist honors in the Floriculture Proficiency Award, given by the Future Farmers of America. Read more.
The Decathlon teams competed in the district meet at Sachse. They brought home a total of 55 medals. Every student who competed won at least one medal. TJ Sokale led the teams with 8 medals. Danille Mills earned 7, Marilyn Thomas 6, Nam Nguyen and Barbara Grimes 5 each, Nick Miller 4, Christina Le, Ann Marie Scott and Yu Hsuan Liao earned 3 each. David Dukich, Isaiah Cole, Morgan Weaver, Sarah Petkovsek, Hillary Chamberlin, Michael Pyryt, Travis Dickey, Tyler Murray, and Huong Thai won team medals. Congratulations to all of those who worked so hard.
