In GISD we promote college from K-12! We want to get an early start and create lifelong learners here at HG. There are even ways your child can prepare at home. You can never prepare your child too early for college, start now, we are!!
Each teacher was challenged to decorate their classroom door for the year to promote college education. Who do you think won the contest? We'll give you a hint...it involves the color purple?!

5th Graders run the show when they sell popcorn, pickles, candy as well as time in the bounce house. Participation is optional and all proceeds go the the 5th Grade Sky Ranch Fund. Bounce House Day is at the end of May.
Our P.E. Department puts on one of the greatest displays of indoor and outdoor activities that Texas has ever seen! The kids absolutely love Field Day, which is in May.
Jump Rope for Heart
Each year we take a moment and do something greater than ourselves. We raise money for the American Heart Association and Jump Rope for Heart! Students will raise money by asking family and friend for donations. Participation is not mandatory.
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated in GISD during the 4th week of October. During that week GISD promotes a drug-free lifestyle by learning about alcohol and drug awareness. You can join the campaign now!
This important leadership role on campus is an important one, it involves the safety of our students. This honor is only given to 5th grade students who haven been nominated by their teachers because of their good behavior and focus in class. Students will be trained to help aid in before/after school dismissal.
This is offered only to our 5th graders as their class trip. This is a chance for students and their teachers to go to a ranch type atmosphere where they will learn about rigorous science, social studies, math and writing activities while enjoying the beautiful outdoors and all it has to offer. Information will come to all 5th grade parents in September. The trip is in January.
This year HG will host our 2nd Turkey Trot for Sky Ranch! The Turkey Trot is held in November and is not mandatory. During your child's PE time they will run (or walk) a designed course. 100% of the money goes to the 5th Sky Ranch Fund. Certificates and small prizes will be awarded to all who participate in the run!
