Programs & Activities
Goals are set each 6 weeks for students to read books and take a comprehension quiz on the computer after each book read. Instant feedback for your child, their teacher, and now parents can monitor from home! When students reach their goals they are rewarded in class and in the Library with a themed event that the kids love like.....SLIME DAY!
We are an AVID school! Every day at Heather Glen, students are receiving a rigorous education. Each week teachers meet both as grade levels and vertically (within content areas) to plan and bridge any gaps that may exist. Our ultimate goal is to build lifelong learners. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure each student is successful.
This year, Heather Glen was chosen to be an AVID campus. So, what is AVID? AVID:
- Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success
- Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships
- Creates a positive peer group for students
- Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination
The AVID Program is a K-12 system to prepare students in academics for four-year college eligibility. It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.
