Our 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the STAAR test on Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31. We ask all parents to please not visit your child, in any grade, for lunch on March 31, due to the testing. This will help us keep the students focused on the test. Thank you!
Northlake's STEM in the news
The Dallas Morning News came out to see for themselves our STEM lab and EiE curriculum in action. EiEwas implemented at Northlake in August as a supplement to the regular science courses the prekindergarten through fifth-grade students take. Coding is the new superpower of the world. What makes a video game work? How does a computer operate? The answer to both of these examples - coding. Coding applies math and science and it makes you have to think, or problem solve. Here are some of our 2nd, 4th and 5th grade students coding.
Our music teacher, Mrs. Wisdom, is helping students learn to make music with the help of technology. She has incorporated music apps that enable her students to read music. Several of her students have learned to play the piano as a result of using this modern approach.
Elementary choice of school
Each year the Garland ISD conducts an annual thirty-day “Choice of School” period during whichparents may choose the school they would like their child(ren) to attend for the next school year. This year the period will be open from March 19 - April 17. More information about the process can be found here.
