Books and Authors
Checkout Procedures
Students check out books for a one-week loan period. Kindergarten and first grade may check out one book per week. Second, third, fourth, and fifth grade students may check out two books per week. The library is no longer collecting fines for overdue books. Students may not check out a new book until they have returned both of their books for the week. If the book is lost they must pay for a replacement. If a book is damaged, a fee for damages will be assessed as usual. Students who have not turned in their books to the library will not be clear to receive report cards.
Open library check out is every afternoon from 2:15 to 3:00 p.m.
Library News
The Rowlett Elementary Library contains over 13,000 books including extensive Spanish, reference, and professional collections. The library also houses various audio and video media, and 6 computer workstations for patron use. Currently the Rowlett Elementary Library services over 600 students and over 60 staff members. The library provides weekly classes, story times, and research training.
The third, fourth, and fifth grade are all reading the books nominated for the Texas Bluebonnet Award. They must read at least 5 books in order to vote for their favorite book in January.
The second grade classes are reading the Caldecott Award winning books and may choose to become members of The Caldecott Award.
