Recently, Walnut Glen was visited by news reporter
Tammy Mutasa to feature our wonderful embrace of using exercise balls in the classrooms! "Bouncing into success in a new way", is how she described the program. 4th grade students Zaili R. and Brian Q. along with their teacher Mylinda Willcut, were featured for an interview. "Don't just think of them as furniture. [I ask my teachers], how can you involve them in your classroom and lessons?", as quoted by Principal Rivera. Walnut Glen Academy #1
As an outstanding achievement, Walnut Glen was recently named one of the highest ranked North Texas elementary schools for the Children At Risk area program. Among other elementary schools, our school was named #3!!! Great job to the teachers, parents, administration and most of all, STUDENTS!!!
Walnut Glen Art students get to SHOW OFF!!!
Recently, the students of Walnut Glen, along with Kimberlin, Hillside, and Vial Elementary, were invited to show off their best work that represents the fabulous art programs offered
at each school. Our own art teacher, Kathleen Hodges and the enriched art teacher, Laura Harms, featured some of the best projects completed at our school the the GISD Art Show Gallery at the South Garland location of the city library. It was a total success! Thanks again to our wonderful art teachers for all you do!

WGA makes a 'bounce" in GISD!!!
Recently the students of WGA were featured for an article on our intergration of the stability balls for use as our classroom chairs. Students were photographed doing the exercise videos and implementing them into everyday lessons. Mr. Rivera, Mrs.Willcut, and Ms.Wilson were all interviewed for the wonderful article that is now featured on the main GISD website. "No Child Left Behind" Report Cards
The NCLB school report cards were sent home in the Feb. 14th Thursday notes. Parents, please look over our school report card. If you have any questions, you may contact the office or email your student's teacher and the question or questions will be sent to the office.

The world class Walnut Glen Academy PTA is inviting all parents to join the WGA PTA for only $8.00. With your support and active volunteer work, you help to provide a healthy and supporting environment for your students and their teachers and administrators. Jump Into the Nature Exchange
Please remind your child to bring those wonderful nature finds to school on that day so that they may go and exchange them based on our point system. Your child will be receiving directions from their Science teacher next week. Remember, the more it is rare, the higher the points.
