Principal - Alex Rivera
Hello everyone!
This is my 3rd year as the principal at Walnut Glen Academy. I consider it and honor and privilege to be working for our students. I served in the United States Air Force for four years and have a master's degree from Texas A&M Commerce in Educational Administration. I am currently working on a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction.
I believe in having an open door policy which includes a positive outlook when meeting parents and community members alike! We are one, big, happy family at Walnut Glen Academy! It is my pleasure and positive interest to develop long lasting relationships with our students, parents and community members.

Assistant Principal - Tyisha Nelson

Greetings! It is a great honor to be the Assistant Principal at Walnut Glen Academy of Excellence. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Texas A&M University at Commerce. My certifications include: Special Education (EC-12), Generalist (EC-4), English as a Second Language, Educational Diagnostician, and Principal.
I am beginning my thirteenth year in education and my seventh year in Garland ISD. Before becoming the assistant principal here at WGA, I taught kindergarten through fifth grade as a special education teacher in Greenville ISD and fourth grade at Freeman Elementary, in addition to working as an Elementary Support Specialist and Educational Diagnostician for Garland ISD. I love working with children! I strive daily to respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual student on our campus. Keeping students as the main focus of every decision has always been my philosophy.
I’m looking forward to my third year here at Walnut Glen!
