Reading Incentive Programs
One of our priorities at Walnut Glen is to promote the enjoyment of reading. To achieve this objective, several reading incentive programs are offered.
Pizza Hut's BOOK-IT! Program

Grades K-5 earn free pizza's by meeting monthly reading goals set by the classroom teacher during the months of October, November, December, January, February, and March! Check out the BOOK-IT! website by placing your cursor over the picture to the left and click!
Texas Bluebonnet Award
Students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are encouraged to read a minimum of five books from a Master List created, usually by November, by two committees within the Texas Library Association (TLA). Once the student reads a minimum of 5 books they may place a vote for their favorite title. The author of the book receiving the most votes statewide is declared the winner of the Texas Bluebonnet Award and is presented the award by randomly selected students who participated in the program. If you'd like more information, place your cursor over the Texas Bluebonnet Award Logo and click away!
2008-2009 Read to Succeed and Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club
Coming December 2008, a free, supplemental language arts program will be available to students in grades K-6. This program features the Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club. Students are encouraged to complete six hours of recreational reading and they are, in turn, rewarded with free admission tickets to participating Six Flags theme parks. Find out more about this program by placing your cursor over the logo to the left and click.
Accelerated Reader
Students choose a book, read it, and then take a computerized reading test that measures comprehension. Points and a comprehension score are given after each test. Walnut Glen Academy Accelerated Reader lists are available online at www.arbookfind.com. These lists are separated by book levels with titles then listed in alphabetical order for each level.
Note to parents: AR tests do not constitute an endorsement of any title. Choose books according to your student and family's interests and values. More info needed? Click the logo and read away!
