City of Rowlett and Rowlett Fire Dept. officials have certain non-negotiable requirements we must adhere to. No queuing (lining up for drop-off or pickup) can occur in the north side, south side, or west side driveways of the building for Fire Lane reasons. The north side will be for Special Needs Students only.
This plan is the culmination of numerous meetings with people involved in the North Texas Tollway Authority George Bush Freeway Extension Project. Please read and study carefully the following directions, and view the diagrams on the RHS Website. The website diagrams may be easier to understand. Keep in mind that the best way to beat traffic is to get an early start and avoid the peak rush times.
*** WE HAVE BEEN WARNED THAT CONSTRUCTION ON THE TOLLWAY AT THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WILL HAVE OUR KIRBY RD. DRIVEWAY SHUT DOWN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. DURING THIS TIME, THE FOLLOWING TRAFFIC FLOW WILL BE IN PLACE.
Morning | Afternoon
In the Morning: Everyone will use the Main Street Driveways
BUSES - will use the north (Main St.) entrance to proceed behind the school. After dropping off their students, they will turn left and enter the student parking lot near the stadium. They will continue east to the back row of the parking lot, turn left and head to the exit at Main St. near the tennis courts. The driveway near Fidel’s office will be ENTER ONLY. They will turn left and head back to the Kirby Rd and Main St. intersection. There they will have the option of turning right or proceeding straight on Main St. There will be no left turn option onto southbound Kirby at peak school rush hours. Animated diagram
PARENTS - will use the north (Main St.) entrance to proceed behind the school.
STAFF - will use the north (Main St.) entrance, then turn right to proceed to the Faculty Parking Lot. Staff who park near the gym and Field House will proceed behind the school. Animated diagram
STUDENTS - will ONLY enter the first driveway into the Student Parking Lot. The driveway nearest the tennis courts will be EXIT ONLY. If you park in the Rows S, I or J, drive the length of the parking lot, and join the line of buses and parents entering the parking lot near the stadium to get to your spot. Don’t drive against the flow of out-going traffic, in the last row, heading to the Main St. exit. Animated diagram
In the Afternoon: Everyone will use the Main Street Driveways BUSES - will line up in their assigned bus lanes at around 2:15, but they will be facing Main St. and will exit onto Main St. Traffic on Main St. will be stopped to allow all the buses to leave at the same time. Animated diagram
PARENTS - Parent Pick Up will occur in the back of the school only (except for approved Shuttle Buses). After picking up their students, they will follow the same procedure as in the morning, proceeding through the student parking lot. At the Main and Kirby intersection, they will have the option of turning right or proceeding straight on Main St. There will be no left turn option onto southbound Kirby at peak school rush hours. Parents should not start to line up to pick up their students until 2:40 when the buses are gone. There will no longer be a “standing/queuing lane” where parents can start to line up before 2:30. Parents who start to line up early create congestion that backs up through the Main St,/Kirby intersection, blocking the buses from getting to our students. Do not pick your student up on Main St. and then make a U-Turn. This endangers our students driving west on Main St. and could result in a ticket from Rowlett Police Department. If you come after 2:40, you will find there is almost no traffic you will have to deal with. Your students will be just fine waiting ten minutes for you. There is a covered area where students can wait for their pickup. Parents of students in Band, Cheer, Drill Team, and Athletics should still pickup behind the school, but if your student has too much to carry, you can pick them up on the south side of the building, after passing behind the school, after 2:40, then do a U-Turn by the softball field, and exit through the student parking lot. Do not pick up students in the Student Parking Lot. Animated diagram
STUDENTS - will leave via the north Main St. exits near Fidel’s office and near the tennis courts. Students will not exit near the Stadium. At the Kirby Rd and Main St. intersection, they will have the option of turning right or proceeding straight on Main St. There will be no left turn option onto southbound Kirby at peak school rush hours.
