AVID Summer Bridge
What is AVID Summer Bridge?
The AVID Summer Bridge is an enrichment program open to Garland ISD Middle School students and is designed to accelerate math skills. The Bridge curriculum includes the integration of WICOR strategies such as Cornell note-taking, interactive notebooks, writing and vocabulary activities.
Team building helps to engage the students in deep learning of math concepts. The engaging, interactive lessons and collaborative activities incorporate math strategies and apply them to real life applications.
Parents - DUE DATE is approaching quickly!
Friday, April 10, 2015 is the last day to turn in Summer Bridge Application to your child's Math Teacher. You can download a copy of the application here.
Dates: June 9-23, 2015
Locations: Austin, Lyles and Webb middle schools.

JUMPSTART your High School Courses
Get a jumpstart on earning high school credits! We will be offering online courses in Personal Fitness, Health, and Speech. You will earn 1/2 credit towards graduation!
Registration for these classes began on Monday, March 23rd, so come get an application in Mrs. Ragsdale’s office before you leave school!
All applications are DUE in your counselor's office by Friday, March 27th.
- Students must be passing all classes.
- Students may not be in danger of failing for the year or STAAR.
- Students may choose ONE class to take.
Courses will be held three days per week from 4 p.m - 5:30 p.m.
Coursework Dates: April 6th – May 13th
These classes are also offered in Summer School, but the fees are $125 per ½ credit …

The FUN RUN begins at 10:00 a.m. and the event concludes at 1:00 p.m.
This year's event promises to be challenging with inflatables and obstacles galore!

The Annual Viking Fun Run is open to anyone and everyone! Friends and family are welcome to attend and participate in the run. Food will be available for anyone and can be purchased with food tickets sold at the event.
Plan on spending the day with lots of great Jackson kids and families!

2nd Annual AVID Soccer Tournament
Jackson Technology Center for Math and Science is hosting its 2nd Annual AVID Soccer Night Tournament.
The tournament will take place on Thursday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m. We will have food, fun and prizes. It is a 4-on-4 tournament that will help support our AVID program. It is an opportunity for parents and families to come out and learn about the AVID program and how it benefits your child's future!
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a collegepreparatory class that teachers students study habits, note taking strategies, and test taking strategies.
AVID field trips include visits to local colleges and community service events. The students participate in tutorials every Tuesday and Thursday, mentored by college students that are hired and trained by the district.
Soccer and AVID - great opportunities for your student! Please come out, cheer for your favorite team, enjoy the food AND see how AVID changes the lives of our students. AMAZING is one way we describe the program!
