Achievements

Garland High School was chosen as a pilot site for College Readiness Evaluation for Schools and Teachers (CREST) - one of only thirty (30) high schools nationwide.  CREST is a landmark study being carried out by the Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC), which is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
How Garland High was selected:  EPIC set out to identify thirty high schools across the nation demonstrating consistent success in preparing students for college.  Toward this end, EPIC asked education experts throughout the United States to nominate schools that provide programs and practices designed to prepare students for enrollment and success in higher education.  In addition to the nominations, EPIC conducted a comprehensive review of the literature on college readiness to identify other outstanding high schools.  The initial list of schools was then refined to identify the schools that appear to be the most fucused on college preparation.  This final sample of schools was selected purposively to include schools enrolling students from a wide range of socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.  In addition, the final sample includes different types of schools, schools with a variety of enrollments, and schools in different regions of the country.

In the athletic arena, the Lady Owls softball team, under the direction of Coach Mosteller, won back-to-back state championships for the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 school years in the girls' 5A division.

With a grant from the Texas High School Project (THSP, GHS initiated the Achievement Academy with the ultimate goal of making all of GHS students . . . College Ready, Career Ready, Life Ready!

The Texas High School Project is dedicated to all Texas students graduating high school ready for college and career success and prepared to be contributing members of the community.
