AVID

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a system that helps students prepare for college.
  • Students are enrolled in an elective class that provides skills in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading.
  • Students engage in tutorials facilitated by college students, Socratic seminars, field trips to college campuses, and presentations on college and career readiness.
  • Students will organize their school materials in a binder, take daily Cornell notes, and use a calendar to keep track of important dates.
  • AVID students will enroll in rigorous courses, while keeping satisfactory citizenship, good attendance, passing grades and an overall 2.5 GPA.
Coyle Middle School will be implementing the AVID system in 2014-2015. The AVID class will begin next year for 7th and 8th graders.  AVID applications are due on or before Monday, April 21st to Mrs. Lira.

Choice of Subject Meeting

There will be a parent meeting for 6th grade parents at 6pm and 7th grade parents at 7pm on Wednesday, April 16th.

Do you want to help your students become stronger readers and writers?

Well here is the perfect way for you to do so. Please go I Station  and follow the directions to have your student participate in I Station activities at home. Sit down with them and see how entertaining this style of learning is. These activities support the essential knowledge and skills that the state of Texas has established for Texas students, and this program is designed to measure and address the needs of each individual student.

Thank you for your support of your student's education. If you have any questions, please give us a call, and if you have any feedback, please email the principal, Doug Miller.

CMS Natural Habitat

Spring has Sprung!   CMS 7th graders are already hard at work in the Science habitats located on the North side of the campus. Take a stroll around the gardens and use your smart phones and the QR codes on the signs by each plant. You'll be linked to information on the CMS academic page about each plant including pictures and plant descriptions.  You might just find something that you'll want to plant in your garden!
