Get Ready! Tips from Student Council President
We interviewed our Student Council President, Jamie O'Brien about getting ready for the second semester. Overall, her number one tip is to start out fresh! Jamie uses her planner every day to write down assignments and has different binders and folders for every class. She says, "Just writing the assignment down helps me remember and the separate folders help in not losing work." Jamie also cleans out her backpack at least once a month and has one folder designated for homework only. "When I get any piece of homework I automatically place it in that folder. I also get rid of any assignments from the previous semester." We hope these tips help our Webb Bears in getting ready for the Spring semester and staying on task!
High School Orientation
9th grade orientation dates are set for all GISD high schools. The 9th grade orientations are a must for our 8th grade students. Students and parents will get a broad overview of the state’s new graduation requirements, and many of the elective courses will be advertised. Clubs, organizations, athletics and dance groups will be represented to answer any question that you might have.
The 83rd Legislative session passed House Bill 5 in June 2013. HB 5 replaces the Minimum High School Program (MHSP), Recommended High School Program (RHSP), and Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) with the Foundation High School Graduation Program beginning with the 2014-2015 school year and thereafter. Parent meetings will be held to discuss these important changes.
Book Bytes Competition
Are you creative? Do you like to read? Are you technologically talented? Webb Middle School has an exciting opportunity available to all students wanting to show off their skills and talents. Students can create an original book trailer to advertise a book from our library. Submissions are due by March 17th at noon. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will go on to compete at the district level. Fun prizes will be awarded and the winning book trailers will appear on the website.
