April 13th-19th is National Library Week
Celebrate National Library Week by reading a good book. Your librarians want to share their love of reading and encourage everyone to read this month! Share your favorite book with us and your name goes into a drawing for a prize. To see what your teachers are reading go to the Library page.
English Class Adopts Reading Program
Ms. Wills English II Pre-Ap class is starting Reading Rewards. It is an online reading log and incentive program that helps get students excited about reading. What a great way to promote reading!

9th and 10th Grade College Parent Night
South Garland High School will be hosting an college information night for parents of 9th and 10th grade students on April 22, 2014 at 6:30p.m. For more details, check out the College Parent Night Flier.
Advanced Art Reception
Artwork created by South Garland High School Advanced Art Students will be on display this month at the South Garland Branch the Nicholson Memorial Library. The reception is Tuesday, April 22 from 6:00 - 7:30p.m. The artwork will be on display until April 30, 2014.
Art I Reception
SGHS Art I students will have their pieces on display at the South Garland Branch of the Nicholson Memorial Library in May. The opening reception will be May 6th from 6:00 - 7:30p.m. The artwork will be on display until May 15, 2014.

SGHS Fashion Show
The SGHS Fashion Club will be hosting it's annual Fashion Show next month. We hope everyone will come out and support these talented students. Tickets are $5.00. Children under 10 are free. All pieces modeled are made by the Fashion Design and Advanced Fashion Design students. Senior cosmetology students will be showcased as well.

UIL District Meet Results
South Garland High School had so many students win awards at this year's UIL District Meets held March 29th. Please take a moment to check out our Recognition page to see all the awards our Colonels brought home. We are so proud of them!
Many of our vocational classes competed in the CTE Fair March 29, 2014. The students brought home many awards for all their hard work. For a list of all the awards, see our Recognition page.
GISD Livestock Show
SGHS FFA students competed March 29-29, 2014 in the annual GISD Livestock Show. They brought home lots of awards for the animals they raised throughout the year. For a complete list and see pictures of the competition, see the SGHS FFA page.

SAT Boot Camp
Senior Bricks at the Curtis Culwell Center
With graduation just around the corner the BEST Education Foundation and Garland ISD would like to present the opportunity for seniors to have a brick printed in the “GISD’s Walkway of History.” At the entrance of the Curtis Culwell Center is a walkway of bricks where you can have your student’s name, your business, or family names printed on one of the bricks. The deadline is April 1st. Be a part of the history of Garland ISD. For more information contact Pam Parks, 972-487-3254, or go to their website at www.besteducationfoundation.org . Also the 2014 Class Sponsor, Class President, or Senior Class Parent Booster Club will have forms available. Be a part of Garland ISD history.
SGHS Anniversary Celebration
2014 marks the 50th anniversary of South Garland High School. We are planning many activities during the Homecoming weekend to celebrate this momentous occasion. Save the following dates so you can be involved in the celebration as well. More details will come as the time gets closer.
