Random acts of kindness in our community
During this time of year, we often think of how we can help others. Random acts of kindness can make a difference in our school and local community. Try some of the suggestions on our Random Acts of Kindness calendar. Close out this year by making a positive impact in our community.
Helping our community with a canned food drive
Student council would like to thank all of the students that donated to our annual canned food drive. We collected 1,523 non-perishable food items for a local Garland food pantry. That is amazing! Thank you for your generosity.
Classes that brought the most items for their grade level have earned a Free Dress Day on Tuesday, December 9. Congratulations to Mrs. Metcalf's class, Ms. Sims' class, Mrs. Magallenez's class, Mrs. Arbelaez's class, Mrs. Pike's class, and Mrs. Eisenstein's class.
Helping the Children's Miracle Network
Our Kids Care Club recently held their annual fall donation drive. They soared into classrooms for one week during our morning announcements collecting change for the Children's Miracle Network. They collected $161.83. Thank you for your generosity and for making our community a better place.
Making a contribution to our school community
Ms. Anna Sims is an instrumental member of the Classical Center at Vial community. She first came to the Classical Center at Vial in January 2008. She has taught first grade and second grade but found that first grade is her true calling. "I love teaching kids to read," Ms. Sims says. Her enthusiasm and zest for teaching are seen by her students and colleagues alike. Fellow first grade teacher Ms. Spurlock says, "Ms. Sims is always coming up with new ideas to share and goes above and beyond for her students and parents." She is also noticed by our adminstration. "Ms. Sims is an amazing teacher. She is innovative, creative, and caring" states Mrs. Tunnell.
In addition to being a first grade teacher, Ms. Sims is the PTA Fundraising chair. She has made a significant impact on the PTA board and her innovative fundraising ideas have provided much needed funds to support the school's endeavors. Ms. Sims lives by the creed "If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours." She definitely shares her smile each and every day with us at the Classical Center at Vial. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful teacher.
Magnet Program Qualification
Many of our current students received a letter in the mail from Garland ISD stating that they qualified for the magnet or the dual language program. If you recieved this, you do not need to reapply. A letter of intent to stay in your current program was sent home with your child. Please fill it out and return it to school so we will know your intent for next year.
Becoming our mission statement
As a Classical Center at Vial learning community, we have been striving to fulfill our mission statement. We have also been reciting the mission statement during our morning announcements. Watch Ms. Sims' first grade class put our mission statement into action.
