Principal- Kelly Williams

About me

I have served the students and families of Garland ISD for 33 years! I started my educational journey at O’Banion Middle School as a teacher/coach. After receiving  my Master’s degree in School Counseling, I served as an elementary and middle school counselor in GISD. I have served as a principal in the district for 15 years. I have been a proud All Star for four years! Abbett is such a wonderful school   with an amazing community! It is has been my absolute pleasure to partner with     our staff and families to support our students!

My Goals For this school and how we will achieve them.

The 2021-22 school year brings many challenges as we begin to close the achievement gaps left from COVID-19. The staff of Abbett is dedicated to providing intensive intervention to our students to ensure they are reaching their potential. We are also excited to implement three initiatives this year that will have a positive impact on our students:

  • Student Leadership – we are creating a leadership program for our students based on The Leader in Me. Through this program, our students will learn about the seven habits of successful students.
  •  Enrichment – we are implementing school-wide AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) and Genius Hour. Both programs will teach our students how to set goals, collaborate with others, research topics of interest to them, and improve their academic skills.
  • Fellowship – we are celebrating diversity and building social-emotional skills. Learning about different cultures is teaching us about our differences and our similarities. Social-emotional skills and activities are built into our daily lessons to help students manage their own feelings and advocate for themselves.

Fun facts About me!

I love adventure!! I enjoy skydiving, white water rafting, hiking, kayaking, and bicycling. I have two sons, Jake (23) and Jett (21), whom I adore! They are also adventurers, so we like to try new things together. My boys inspire me to be a better person every day!

Counselor- Kandra Rincones

Kandra Rincones has been teaching since 2007 and is excited to be at Abbett as a School Counselor.  She received her bachelors in music education from UNT and taught music for 7 years.  After this time, she moved to the general education classroom where she taught for 5 years.  Believing that growth and education can take her places, she continued her education and completed a masters in school counseling from Texas A&M Commerce.  Mrs. Rincones loves working with children who struggle academically by advocating on their behalf.  She lives in Forney with her husband, two boys and little girl.

Secretary- Sherron Mayes

Our Principal's secretary, Sherron Mayes, has been Abbett's "Go-To Gal" since 1999.   If you have spent any time here you know she does it all, knows the answer to every question, and is the world's best cook!
