We now have a beautiful garden near the playground! Students of all grade levels will be planting, observing and tending to flowers, plants, fruits, and vegetables. The garden will be overseen daily by fifth graders. We also have a compost pile. Students have been given information regarding what items are acceptable to place for composting.
We are so excited to report that our gardens are growing by leaps and bounds! This fall, Girl Scout Troop 279 will be building 3 new gardens. We will have 7 gardens so that each grade level can have their own for experimenting. The Texas A&M Research and Extension Office will be installing a 1,000 gallon water collection system so that students can harvest rainwater from the roof giving them an opportunity to water their own plants. A big thank you goes to our Abbett PTA for funding this project! This is a wonderful enrichment opportunity for our students and one that will be enjoyed for years to come. We love our outdoor garden classroom!
Fun in P.E.
Mrs. Schaeffer has lots of great lesson plans ready to entertain the students as well as extra activities planned though out the year. While it is great to have fun, safety and proper dress is needed firsthand.
The shoes students wear must fasten securely to their feet. This means boots, sandals, slip-on tennis shoes, crocs, or flip flops are not appropriate for gym day. Girls should also wear shorts under dresses or skirts as boys will be participating in gym at the same time.
Students remember the basic gym rules:
- Be Safe
- Be Kind
- Keep Moving
Every year we have a fun time with Field Day. Parents volunteer their time to help run the various activities. Students are given water, Gatorade, popcorn, and other snacks.
