All About the Arts

In Garland ISD, we strive to have a robust art program where our students can learn about different art movements, techniques, mediums, continents, cultures and, learn about some of the master artists from the past. We want every young artist to learn art history, academic visual arts vocabulary, with interdisciplinary connections that will enable them to find themselves and develop who they are as artists.

As part of the VAPA (Visual Arts & Performing Arts) elementary curriculum, your child will be able to virtually travel around the world and visit other continents, learn about their culture and their contributions to the art world. Our focus per grade level is as follows:

Grade Continent Artist Artwork

Abbett fine arts night

On May 5th at 6:00pm, we will put on our Fine Arts Night, also known as Camp Abbett! All students and families are invited to attend. Ms. Mouton will show all of our students’ artwork throughout the school year and will also provide students and families the opportunity to create arts and crafts together! Ms. Robinson will help our students perform different songs for their families. For the music performances, we will go in grade order (kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th) and all families are welcome to watch our amazing artists perform and create art together! If you have any questions, feel free to message Ms. Robinson or Ms. Mouton!

District UIL competition

On March 26th, some of our Abbett students competed at the GISD Elementary UIL competition. This was our school’s first time competing in the competition and everyone worked very hard and had a great time!
