Jolie Scott-Principal

Hello, Armstrong Aviators!

My name is Jolie Scott and I'm beginning my 2nd year as the proud principal of Armstrong Elementary. I grew up in Garland ISD and attended Vial Elementary, Coyle Middle School, and Lakeview Centennial High School. My teaching career began at Rowlett Elementary where I taught 4th grade and then I continued at Stephens Elementary as a 3rd and 1st grade teacher. Before serving 5 years as the assistant principal at Armstrong, I was the interventionist at Spring Creek Elementary for 3 years. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a reading specialization at the University of North Texas and a Master in Educational Leadership at Lamar University. On a personal note, I am a mom of two grown sons and a daughter. Seven years ago, we welcomed my beautiful grandson into the world. I love to spend as much time as I can with my family, as well as travel and read good books! Armstrong has always been known for being one of the best schools in Garland ISD and I am so proud to be a part of this outstanding community of parents, students, and staff. I look forward to seeing our Aviator families as we work together for a successful school year!

Hello Amazing Aviator Family,

My name is Misty Russell and I am thrilled to be your assistant principal at Armstrong Elementary. I was born in New Jersey. I later went on to live in Missouri, Kansas, Alabama, and finally Texas, which I have called home for the last 23 years.

I began my teaching career 17 years ago at George W. Truett Elementary in Dallas ISD. At the time, Truett had about 1200 students. I taught third grade, self-contained. I loved the challenge, and my students were successful.  I went on to teach 4th and 5th grade students in Dallas and Mesquite ISD. I returned to Dallas as a K-5, Campus Literacy Coach at Truett. After three years, I went on to become an elementary assistant principal.

My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Alabama A&M, Master's in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington, and I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree at UT Arlington.

Personally, my husband and I are the proud parents of our daughter, Micah and son, Zachary. Micah is heading off to college in the fall, and Zach is going to eighth grade at Sunnyvale Middle School. Our family enjoys basketball, swimming, watching movies, and playing board games. We are also Dallas Cowboy fans!

I love elementary! We get to see so many firsts and create an enduring love for learning and school. I look forward to working together to positively impact our students' journeys.
