Ms. Fox wins TI award
We are thrilled to announce that our Garland ISD Education Foundation and its board of directors have awarded Bridget Fox with the prestigious TI Foundation Innovations in STEM Teaching Award! It's a huge accomplishment as only 3 teachers across the district receive this $10,000 prize- $5,000 for the teacher and $5,000 for their classroom!
6th grade MYP
Through Literacy Enrichment and social studies classes, our sixth-grade students have studied world cultures and examined real-world problems such as clean water access, deforestation, unsustainable urbanization, the impact of consumption on the environment, and limited resources for innovation. At our first Global Summit, our sixth graders proposed their solutions to some of the world's biggest challenges!
We had local guests from Keep Garland Beautiful, Water Utilities, Environmental Health, and Stormwater Management.
Last spring, Austin Academy raised $2,642, which gave clean water to 176 people in Ntunene, Kenya!
Jazz Band 1 and 2 received ratings of a 1 at the TCU Jazz Festival. Jazz Band 1 placed 1st in the middle school division.
In May 2023, the Austin Academy Pentathlon teams competed at the U.S. Academic Pentathlon National Competition in Garden Grove, California. The 7th Grade team earned 3rd placed in the State Champion division, bringing home a bronze banner along with 12 individual medals. 8th Grade Team 1 earned 3rd place in the State Champion division, bringing home a bronze banner along with 13 individual medals. 8th Grade Team 2 earned 4th place in the Invited Teams division along with 11 individual medals.
Congratulations to Ken Bailey, a veteran and outstanding educator, nominated by his peers for Teacher of the Year at Austin Academy! Also, loving cheers to Mrs. Cassandra Rumphs, our Para of the Year who always goes above and beyond. You both make Austin Academy shine!
