Dr. John Poynter attended Kent State University for his bachelor's degree and Texas A&M Commerce for both his Master's and Doctorate. Dr. Poynter was a coach and history teacher prior to becoming an administrator. His leadership experience began in the classroom, as a department head, campus athletic coordinator, and head coach for track and field. Dr. Poynter has also been a campus administrator at both middle and high school as well as spending time at the central office level in Student Services.
Dr. Poynter has been in education for 32yrs. He spent time in three different school districts over the course of that time, with the last 18 years in Garland ISD. He has three wonderful children McKenzie 29, Jace 20, and Greyson 10. Dr. Poynter is engaged to an amazing woman and partner in my life, Rachel. He is an avid hunter, sports fan, lover of music and trivia, good books and thoughtful poems. His parents say he is a bit of a renaissance man, enjoying DIY projects, solving problems, and working with both mind and hands.
