Choir

"Music can change the world because it can change people."   ~ Bono

Under the direction of Jonathan Coffield and assistant director Jazmine Askins, the choir program at Austin Academy involves approximately 200 students and consists of six choirs.  Sixth graders have two groups, while seventh and eighth graders have a Treble Choir, a Men’s Choir, the Girls Select Choir, and the A Cappella Mixed Choir.  Sixth graders participate in 6th Grade Festival and produce a musical at the end of the year.  Seventh and eighth graders participate in the GISD Solo Contest and UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest in the spring.  All choirs participate in the Hawaiian Falls Competition in May, and all are successful and consistently win awards.

Everyone is excited about the upcoming choir year and making great strides towards our BEST year of outstanding choral achievement ever!  Last year’s choirs continued our tradition of excellence with outstanding, award-winning performances at competitions and concert venues through Garland, the Metroplex, and beyond!
