Clear Bag Policy

To help ensure a safe and respectful environment for guests, Garland ISD has put into effect a Clear Bag Policy for all GISD middle and high school athletic events and fine arts performances.

As an Austin Academy athlete, our students represent the best and they deliver their best.  Eagle athletes demonstrate their talents on and off the field.  

Games are held at various locations across the district depending on the sport. Tickets are $2 for adults and $1 for students. District employees get in free with their badge.

Boys athletics

GISD offers 4 sports for boys:

  • football
  • basketball
  • soccer
  • track

As athletes at Austin Academy, we represent the BEST; therefore we expect only the best. The example set in the halls, classrooms and community is a reflection of our program. We are role models for everyone around us.  Respect will be shown to all coaches and others in authority including teachers. This respect should extend to teammates, other students, and our opponent.

Football practice

  • Monday/Thursday -Practice (no contact equipment).
  • Friday/Wednesday - Four practices with helmets only, no other contact equipment allowed.
  • Thursday - Full pads and contact equipment. Must complete 7 days of contact practice prior to the first game.   

Parent / Coach Meeting will be Sept. 3rd (meet the teacher night)

7th grade practice

1st period athletics

All students in 7th grade athletics should:

  • enter the building through the Boys Gym doors in the A.M. (Northwest corner of the building). You may enter the front cafeteria doors if you arrive prior to 7:25or in the event of inclement weather.
  • Boys’ gym doors are open by 7:30. 
  • Student/ Athletes that eat school breakfast eat at 7:35. 
  • Boys should be dressed and on the field by 7:45.
  • Practice will be Monday through Friday, 7:45 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. 
  • Class ends at 9:35

8th grade practice

7th period athletics begins at 3:05 

  • on the field by 3:15. 
  • Practice is over by 5:15 before the first scheduled games start. 
  • Practice is over @ 5:00 once the season starts. 
  • Wednesday release time will move to 3:50 once the season begins. (* day after game routine / stretch/jog/film 3:50) They may ride the bus; please pick up your child promptly at 3:50.

Game Day

Football games (7th will be played on Monday night. See schedule)  (8th grade games are played on Tuesday night (see schedule)  B team games begins at 5:15/ over @ approx. 6:10. A team games begins at 6:15/ over @ approx. 7:30

On game day students will:

  • Remain at school and complete homework. Please pack a sandwich/snack for them to bring to school on game day. (We have a refrigerator)
  • All athletes will ride the bus to the games.
  • Athletes may be picked up at the game field. If they are not picked up by the time the bus leaves the field, the athletes should be picked up at school.

 

Girls athletics

GISD offers four sports for girls in middle school:

  • volleyball
  • basketball
  • soccer
  • track

At Austin Academy, athletes are students first.  Academic classes always take precedence over athletics.  Athletes must always maintain a passing average in all of their classes.  We teach our athletes respect, trust, and integrity.  These traits apply not only to the coaches and their teammates, but to teachers and fellow students.

Be a senior citizen VIP 

With a special VIP pass, senior citizens over the age of 65 can get free general admission to many athletic and Fine Arts events.
