I could not be more thrilled to serve the staff, students, and parents at Back Elementary as the Principal!

I am a product of GISD schools, and have spent my entire career in Garland ISD. I started my career as a 2nd grade long term substitute at Carver Elementary. I then taught 5th grade at Toler Elementary and Davis Elementary. After 7 years as a classroom teacher, I went to serve as the AVID Elementary Specialist, where I supported 39 elementary schools in GISD with the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. For the past 4 years, I have served as the Assistant Principal at Davis Elementary. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M and my Masters in Educational Leadership from Southern Methodist University (SMU).

I look forward to partnering with the dedicated staff and community at Back Elementary to continue to provide the very best educational environment for each of our students. I am also eager to collaborate with you as we work together to ensure success for every child, every day. At Back, our greatest responsibility is to work together to provide differentiated learning that inspires and challenges all students. Together, we will provide students with engaging opportunities to grow, learn and reach their full potential.

I look forward to making this the best school year yet!

It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself as Annette Medina, the assistant principal at Back Elementary. I am truly honored to have the privilege of serving such a remarkable group of educators, students, and families.

I am originally from Eagle Pass, TX and grew up in Iowa. I attended St. Edward's University, in Austin, TX, where I earned my bachelor's degree in early childhood education. I received my master's in educational leadership at Texas Christian University. Prior to my current role, I have served as a bilingual classroom teacher and a reading and math intervention teacher. I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education and I am committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive and fulfill their potential.

I am incredibly excited to collaborate with the Back community to create a positive and impactful educational experience for our students. By working hand in hand, we have the potential to achieve remarkable outcomes and make a lasting difference in the lives of each one of our students.
