Parent involvement
Students with involved parents, no matter what their income or background, are more likely to:
- earn high grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
- pass their classes, earn credits, and be promoted
- attend school regularly
- graduate and go on to post secondary education
Explore the ways in which you can get support and be involved in your student's education on the district's Parent involvement page. Highlights for parent involvement include Back Elementary School's Campus Parent Involvement Policy, Parent workshops and Complaints and Concerns.
Volunteering
Volunteer sign-up is easier than ever! Visit the office with a valid picture ID. We will enter your information, take a quick picture and that's it. Your application will be sent immediately for a background check. The process should only take 2-3 days and an email will be sent as soon as it clears. We can't wait to see you!
Per GISD policy, only approved volunteers may participate in Field Trips, Class Parties, and school events as chaperones or volunteers.
Please note: If you fill out the online application and do not visit the office with a valid picture ID to input into the Raptor system, your online application will not be approved. Be sure to stop in at the office and let us help make the process fast and easy.

No more than 4 challenge
Research shows that attendance affects academic achievement, the path to graduation and future success. Garland ISD exists to provide an exceptional education to all students and believes in every one of them. It is that devotion that drives the district to challenge students and families to miss no more than four school days--excused or unexcused.
Take the pledge. Attend school every day.
Share your pledge by using the hashtag #IWillAttend on Twitter. Learn more on the district's attendance page.
Student ID
What is the Student ID Number and why do I need it?
The Student ID Number is assigned to your child on the first day of enrollment in the GISD. This 6 digit number is used as their lunch number and will remain their Student ID Number until graduation.
Do you know your child's Student ID Number? If not, ask your child for this number and place it where it can be easily accessed. Many parents put their child's ID in their cell phone directory.
Please have your child's Student ID Number when calling the office for any reason regarding your child. With this number you can easily change the way a student goes home, fill out the release of student form when picking a child up early from school, or ask for information on tardies and absences.
