#ChooseGarlandISD because each campus has a certified librarian ready to help your child find just right books
Please check out Mrs. Ray's blog and twitter account for more information about the library and reading. @ReadingRay
Check out procedures
Prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade students may check out one book at a time. After Christmas break, students in first grade with clear library records will be allowed to check out two books. Students in 2nd grade start the year off checking out two books and move to three if their record is clear. Third-fifth graders may choose 3 books.
If a student finishes their book(s) before the next time their class goes to the library, then they may be allowed to go the the library during open checkout times with a pass from their teacher. Open checkout is every day from 8:15 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
The library promises are:
- Follow directions of library staff
- Keeps hands and feet to self
- Speak quietly
- Be gentle with the books
- Listen and be polite to others
- Do not pass while entering or leaving
- Ask for help when needed
Students in all grade levels are invited to complete book projects throughout the year to earn reading degrees and other rewards. View some of this year's wonderful projects below that were created about books from MyON.
Bluebonnet award program
The Bluebonnet Award is given out each year to a book that students in grades 3-6 across Texas vote as their favorite from a list of 20. Students can win prizes from Mrs. Ray for reading these books independently and answering questions about the book. Students who read at least 5 books on the Bluebonnet list will be invited to a party and allowed to vote in January.
Six Flags reading program
All students at Bradfield have been given the opportunity to read six hours to earn a ticket to Six Flags. Just read on your own or with a family member. Write the times you read on your reading log and have your parent sign it. Make sure the times on your log add up to six hours.
Braum's book buddy
This year Braum's has partnered with Bradfield to offer a reading incentive. Students earn stickers for books read and then after 6 stickers they can earn an ice cream treat.
This year during PLC class, the students are participating in makerspaces. These are activities where the students work in collaborative groups to create.
