Counseling
Our counselor
Meet Mrs. Rowel
My name is Davina Davis-Rowel. I'm also known as Mrs. Queen. I am thrilled to be the counselor at Caldwell. This is going to be a fun year filled with learning, growing, and lots of new adventures. I cannot wait to get to know you and your child.
First I would like to tell you a little about myself. I have been working in education for 25 years. I was a teacher for 8 years and a librarian for 11 years. This is my 6th year serving as a school counselor.
I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. I attended Southern University A&M at Baton Rouge, LA where I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education. I earned my Master's degrees from Texas A&M Commerce in Reading and in Library and Information Science. I am also certified as a school counselor.
As your counselor, I'm dedicated to fulfilling your students' social and emotional needs. I have exciting counseling lessons that I will teach students throughout the year. I will meet with students individually and in counseling groups.
Feel free to contact me with any questions that you have about the counseling program. I look forward to working with you and your child.
Counselor mission statement
My mission is to advocate for all learners by creating a nurturing and safe environment. I collaborate with school personnel, families, and the community to provide a comprehensive school counseling program that supports the academic, career, and social emotional development of our students in order for them to become responsible and productive citizens for the 21st century.
Counselor vision statement
My vision is for every student to be empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve high levels of academic success. They should maintain personal wellness and positive social relationships. This vision includes exploring college, career, and military readiness opportunities.
What can my counselor do for me?
Counselors will help you by:
- reviewing your choice of subject during the registration period (February - April)
- providing study skills and academic information
- providing career and college information
- helping in teacher/student relationships
- helping cope with family issues
- listening to concerns about friends, etc.
- giving you information about life and decision-making skills
- referring you to people or places outside of school for help if necessary
- being your advocate – counselors are here for you!
Counselors for each campus are certified by the state of Texas in School Counseling, have a Master’s Degree, and previous teaching experience. Each elementary school has a guidance counselor to help ensure that adequate support for helping students to succeed and meet their goals is available.
