Music teacher, Honor Choir Director

I am excited to be the Music Teacher at Cooper Elementary for the 2022 - 2023 school year.

In building the music foundation and life-long enjoyment of music, the students will engage in singing, movement, listening, and playing instruments. They will learn to read, write, and compose rhythmic and melodic patterns, use correct music vocabulary, and become independent music-makers. Students will learn to relate music to history and culture and to connect it to other subjects.

Students will have performance opportunities through the Honor Choir (5th and 4th grades), and grade level evening performances (2^nd and 4^th).

Cooper Honor Choir  

The Honor Choir will meet after school, on Mondays.  The Honor Choir will encourage students to discover the joy of singing, the influence of good music, becoming comfortable with their singing voices, developing their abilities in singing independent parts simultaneously.  It also builds friendships, serves the community and they have fun.

Hello, I am happy to be the Art Teacher at Cooper Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year. Art students will learn about basic art elements and principles of design;  they will build on those elements through their imagination and creativity to make beautiful and colorful art works. Students will be selected to participate in the GISD Art show and Big Art Day in the spring, please contact me for more information.  Fifth grade art students will have the privilege of going to the Dallas Museum of Art in downtown Dallas, parent chaperones are welcome and needed. Students are allowed an extra 45 minutes of art each week which is called PLC and I will host Art Club during that time; students will get a chance to do creation station centers and arts and crafts. I look forward to getting to know your students and fostering their love and appreciation of art. 

 

Things to know about the art room:

• I see the students once a week for 50 minutes.

• We take donations and I am always in need of baby wipes for cleaning messes. We also need Kleenex.

• Art projects are broken up into smaller steps and may take six weeks to complete.

• Art works will be displayed throughout the building and off campus at various times in the year.  Look for further information regarding this at a later date.

Art Club

Here are the major points of the club:

• Members of the Art Club are required to maintain a 75% grade average and not have discipline problems in the classroom environment. 
• Art Club will provide the student with opportunities to increase their artistic skills and creativity as well as involve them in a worthwhile school activity.
• We will participate in individual, school-wide, and community projects which will increase each student’s confidence as well as help develop a sense of school and community pride.
