DISMISSAL TRAFFIC FLOW
Dismissal begins at 3:30pm
At dismissal students are either car riders, independent walkers, or day care/bus riders.
Dismissal begins promptly at 3:30!
Car riders:
PreK-5th grade car riders will be dismissed from the cafeteria/gym side of the building via your assigned lane. Car riders vehicles will enter the parking lot from Waterhouse with your pick up tags displayed on your dash by the marque and form two lanes. Parents may not exit their cars for any reason in this line.
Prek-2nd Grade Car Riders/Sibling Groups
Your lane will be the interior (right lane) when you turn off of Waterhouse to make the loop around the building.
3rd-5th Single Car Riders
Your lane will be the exterior (left lane) when you turn off Waterhouse to make the loop around the building.
Car riders will be placed into cars outside of the cafeteria/gym.
ALE Car Riders/ Siblings, Bus Riders and Daycare Riders
If your child falls in to the category, they will dismiss from the front of the building. Make one lane, have your pick up tag clearly displayed on your dashboard, and your child will be placed in your car.
A note about Bus and Daycare Riders:
Parents must communicate which daycare or bus that your child will be riding to your child's teacher before the first day of school. All daycare and bus students will be dismissed to their day care vans or GISD buses once they have been checked off.
Independent Walkers
Independent walkers will be released from the marquee. Parents that choose walk home with their kids must meet their kids by the marquee, and may not crowd the front door.
Teachers at this duty station are there to supervise students as they walk off campus. They are not there to supervise students waiting for parent pick up. Students may walk toward Roan Rd or they may walk toward Wellington and Waterhouse. Students that are independent walkers are not permitted to wait on campus for their parent. if you expect your child to supervised until you arrive, your child must be a car rider. Parents are also responsible for all student behavior that occurs while students are walking home. Any instances of student misconduct out in the neighborhood that causes a disruption on campus can be addressed by our Student Code of Conduct. Furthermore, misconduct off campus after dismissal could lead to intervention by the Garland Police Department. My message to parents of independent walkers is always simple... Tell your kid to walk straight home.
Dismissal ends each day at 3:55. All students are expected to be picked up on time each day as teachers need to get to meetings and home to their families. Due to this, late pick ups will not be tolerated. If you arrive after 3:55 to pick up your child, you will be required to come into the front of the building to sign your child out
Changing How your Child Goes Home:
If you need to change how their kid(s) go home, you must contact your child's teacher at least 24 hours prior to dismissal the day that you need to make a change, or you can call the office up until 2:30 the day of. Parents may also write a note to their child's teacher as well (just make sure that your child knows to give the note to their teacher). Teachers are under strict directions that they are to NEVER take a child's word on a dismissal change. Teachers will not have time to call and verify dismissal changes provided via the word of a child. If communication is not received from a parent, your kids will be sent home via their normal dismissal method.
Dismissal During Bad Weather:
Dismissal will always proceed like normal. This means that even in the rain, students will be dismissed via their normal dismissal methods. The only time that dismissal will be adjusted is if our area of Dallas County is under a severe weather warning of some kind. Any changes to dismissal will be communicated via Class Dojo. Please check out the section about Emergency Preparedness down below for more information about our severe weather response plans.
One Final Note about Dismissal
Please note that dismissal the first week of school will take longer than it usually will. This is because people will be learning the procedures and getting back into the routine of everything. We will be welcoming over 100 new families to our school. Please be patient the first week of school with the process and other people as we get everything down. We will not tolerate anyone becoming verbally abusive, or otherwise disrespecting other parents or staff out of frustration with the traffic. Dismissal will take about a week to smooth out. Please give our staff and other parents grace while we all adjust to being back in school. Our goal is to be done with dismissal daily by 4:00 by the end of the second week of school. Please follow the above expectations to help us meet our goal!
*FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY REASONS, DO NOT PARK ON WATERHOUSE DRIVE. DOING SO IMPEDES EMERGENCY ACCESS AND CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE FOR OUR CAMPUS.
