Assistant Principal, James Johnson

Mr. Johnson attended Louisiana Tech University and Grambling State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, as well as a Louisiana and Texas Teaching certification in 1996 for grades (EC-4) and (1-8). After teaching third grade for three and one-half years at Grambling State University Laboratory School, he then moved to Terrell, Texas. He served in many roles there, including third and fourth grade teacher, elementary and high school assistant principal, Head Start Director, and assistant basketball and baseball coach. During his time in Terrell ISD, he received his Mater of Education Degree in Mid-Management, as well as his Texas Principal certification from Texas A&M Commerce in 2011.

After fourteen years in Terrell he was blessed with the opportunity to serve two years as principal of the Clarksville Middle & High School campuses, located in Clarksville, Texas. After relocating back to the Dallas area in 2016, he secured a third-grade teaching position at George Washington Carver Elementary School here in Garland ISD. This year he will oversee 8th grade, Science, Social Studies, and Fine Arts here at Coyle. This will be the start of his 25th year in education, with this being his 5th at CMS.

Mr. Johnson is married to his beautiful wife of 24 years, Amanda, who is also an administrator in another district. They have two awesome children; Madison, who is a 19-year-old college sophomore attending Grambling State University, and Maddox who is a 12-year-old 7th grader attending Brandenburg Middle School here in GISD.
