Administration
Our Principal

Dear Davis Families and Community,
Welcome to A.R. Davis Elementary!
It is an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of this extraordinary school community. Davis Elementary is a place where students are encouraged to grow, achieve, and discover their unique potential in a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
As an educator, I firmly believe that strong relationships are the foundation of student success. When students feel valued, supported, and connected, they are empowered to take risks, overcome challenges, and reach their goals. At Davis, we are committed to fostering a culture where every child is known, every voice is heard, and every student is given the opportunity to succeed.
Since beginning my career in education in 2012, I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles, including classroom teacher, interventionist, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal. These experiences have reinforced my passion for developing students, supporting educators, and building strong partnerships with families and the community. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Langston University and a Master of Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University.
At Davis, our dedicated staff works tirelessly to provide high-quality instruction, meaningful learning experiences, and the support students need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We believe that every child can learn, grow, and achieve at high levels when provided with the right opportunities and encouragement.
Education is most powerful when schools and families work together. I invite you to partner with us as we continue to create a learning community where students feel inspired, challenged, and prepared for future success.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children. It is a privilege to serve the Davis community, and I look forward to working alongside you to ensure the success of every student, every day.
With gratitude,
Rosalyn Black, MBA

Our Assistant Principal

Dear Davis Elementary Students, Families, Staff, and Community Members,
I am honored and excited to serve as the Assistant Principal of Davis Elementary. This opportunity is especially meaningful to me because my story is deeply connected to Garland ISD.
After moving to Garland from West Texas, I completed fifth grade at Handley Elementary, attended Sellers Middle School, and graduated from Rowlett High School. As a student, I experienced firsthand the lasting impact that caring educators, strong schools, and a supportive community can have on a child’s future. It is truly a privilege to now give back to the same district and community that poured so much into me.
Garland ISD is also an important part of my family’s story. I am the proud mother of two wonderful children who are both products of Garland ISD. My son graduated from Lakeview Centennial High School Collegiate Academy and went on to play college football. My daughter is part of the Advanced Math and Science program at North Garland High School. As both an educator and a parent, I understand the trust families place in their schools and the importance of ensuring that every child feels known, supported, challenged, and celebrated.
I bring 16 years of experience in education. I began my career teaching high school mathematics at multiple levels in Dallas ISD, Irving ISD, and Garland ISD. I later spent more than a decade teaching middle school mathematics at Coyle Middle School across grades six through eight, with most of that time dedicated to sixth-grade math. My years in the classroom shaped my belief that all students can succeed when they are provided with high expectations, meaningful relationships, effective instruction, and the support they need to grow.
I later had the opportunity to serve Garland ISD at the district level as a Math Curriculum Support Specialist. In this role, I helped write and support mathematics curriculum for grades six through eight, including Algebra I. This experience allowed me to collaborate with educators throughout the district and deepen my passion for developing teachers, strengthening instruction, and creating meaningful learning experiences for students.
For the past three years, I served as the Math and Science Instructional Coach at Webb Middle School. During that time, I worked alongside teachers and campus leaders to strengthen instruction, analyze student data, develop intervention systems, and support academic growth. I am extremely proud that Webb earned a TEA “B” rating and four academic distinctions. These accomplishments resulted from the dedication, collaboration, and belief of an entire school community.
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at Dallas and my Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University, where I also completed my principal certification. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to growing as a servant leader and using my experiences to positively influence students, educators, and families.
My leadership philosophy is grounded in the belief that people rise when someone believes in them and is willing to walk beside them. At Davis Elementary, I am committed to leading with an open door, a listening ear, and a servant’s heart. I look forward to building meaningful relationships, celebrating the successes of our students and staff, and partnering with families and community members to create a safe, supportive, and challenging environment where every student can learn, grow, and thrive.
I am grateful to be part of the Davis Elementary Dragon Family and look forward to all that we will accomplish together.
Together, Dragons Soar!
