Dr. Leslie Russell - Principal
This is my fifth year as the Principal at Norma Dorsey Elementary. I am proud of the accomplishments of our students, teachers and staff and our collaborative culture that encourages all participants to be the best version of themselves. It is truly a joy to come to Dorsey every day and work with such wonderful children and adults.
I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Centenary College and both a Master of Science in Educational Administration and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A & M University in Commerce. I have a son and a daughter who both graduated from Garland schools well prepared for college. My son is a graduate of Centenary College and Texas Tech University and my daughter is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. I also have two beautiful grandchildren, Charlotte and Anderson.
I am a strong believer that education is the greatest equalizer that society has to offer and I am looking forward to continuing the traditions and great things happening at Dorsey.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Hey Wildcats, I'm Mrs. Huey your Associate Principal here at Dorsey Elementary and I'm excited we'll be spending the year together! This is my 16th year in Garland ISD and my 8th year as an administrator!
I started my career in Pre-Kindergarten, teaching Inclusion, ESL and General Education. I have also been a Literacy Specialist for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, as well as a 3rd Gen Ed Teacher. This is not my 1st time at Dorsey as I had the privilege of serving as an Instructional Support Teacher for Primary grades Pre-K-2, teaching Math and ELA before becoming an Assistant Principal. I have a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies and also a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Texas A&M University –Commerce and my 2nd Master’s is in Educational Administration which I earned from Lamar University.
On a more personal note, my husband also works for Garland ISD and we have four kids; two are in college, 1 in high school, and 1 in middle school. We enjoy going on cruises, going to the movies, and our most recent new family activity is embarrassing my son by doing Fortnite Dances! I am also very active as a Youth Advisor at my church and I organize and take part of lots of service events at my church and in my community.
I am beyond excited to serve as your Associate Principal in this incredible community!
