We ask that parents not use the bus lane for arrival or dismissal. Please use the two farthest lanes in front of the building for drop off. 

Students should be dropped off in the front of the building and will enter using cafeteria door. The doors will open at 7:45 a.m. each morning.

Students will wait in the cafeteria and main hall until we dismiss for first period at 8:40 a.m.

Students that would like to attend tutorials will need to be in the cafeteria by 8:10 a.m. Teachers will pick up students from the cafeteria for morning tutorials by 8:15 a.m.

ISS (Level 2 discipline)

Students that have discipline issues that escalate to level 2 discipline (ISS placement) are required to be dropped off by a parent at 8:30 a.m. and picked up at 3:30 p.m. The student must be signed out by a parent. The student is not allowed to walk home or ride the bus. They must be picked up at the designated time by a parent/guardian. 

Not only are cellphones  a distraction to learning, more than half the physical and verbal altercations that occurred last year were a result of social media. To ensure our students are focused on learning, and for the physical and emotional safety of our students, we are not permitting the use of cell phones during the instructional day. 

• All cell phones and accessories must be turned off and not visible during the instructional day.

• If a student uses a telecommunications device without authorization during the school day, the device will be confiscated and turned in to a campus administrator.

• No use of cellphones at all during class time( unless teacher permits),transitions, restrooms, etc. It will be confiscated.

• No earbuds, airpods, headphones (may be used during class with teacher permission)

• If you need to reach your student due to an emergency or relay a message, please call the front office, we will make sure to get in contact with your student for you to relay the message.

Garland ISD has established a dress code for the district. We will be adhering to the same code. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us.

The ID card is considered a part of student dress and must be visible at all times while the student is in the building or any school sponsored event. 

• All clothing must be fingertip or knee length: skirts, shorts, and dresses.

• Tops must fall naturally below the belt loops. (No crop tops, no midriff)

• Leggings and yoga pants are permitted, but they must cover with a longer shirt. 

• No undergarments are to be visible.

• Pants may not have holes or rips. 

• Shoes must be worn at all times.

• Cleats and wheels on shoes are not permitted.

• No pajamas, robes, blankets, or slippers are permitted.

• Hoodies are allowed, but due to safety reasons, the hood cannot be worn over the head at any time.

• No apparel that depicts or advertises alcohol, drugs, nudity, tobacco products, satanic themes, gang membership, obscene language, obscene graphics, and/or that is offensive to others is permitted.

• Accessories such as hats, caps, beanies, visors, non-religious head coverings, teeth grills or sunglasses are not permitted in the building.

Students have been issued student ID cards along with lanyards. It is a district expectation that all secondary students wear an ID on campus and at any school sponsored events. 

If a student missed picture day or needs a replacement ID, they need to stop by the office during their lunch time to get an ID card made. The first replacement is free, however, the 2nd time will have a $5 fee. 

The ID card must be visible at all times while the student is in the building or any school sponsored event. 

We will be distributing Chromebooks to 6th graders on Monday, August 2nd.

7th and 8th Graders will receive Chromebooks on Tuesday, August 3rd.

Students should bring their fully charged Chromebook to school with them each day. We ask that Chromebooks are carried in a backpack in the hallways.

Bring your own device policy 

Students in Garland ISD now have the opportunity to bring their own personal electronic devices to school for educational purposes. With administrator and teacher approval, students may use their devices to access and save information from the Internet, to collaborate with other learners, and to utilize the productivity tools available to them.

GISD BYOD policy

Austin Academy students are expected to complete and submit assignments by the due date.

The grade will be posted as a "0" in Skyward. Students will have three days to submit the assignment after the "0" is posted in Skyward. Ten points will be deducted each day the assignment is late.

Students will be dismissed at 4:10 p.m. each day.

Bus Riders

Most AAE buses arrive prior to dismissal. That group of buses will leave school approximately 10 minutes after dismissal. It is important for students to gather their belongings and make their way to their bus.

Austin will have a handful of buses that are considered "late buses" and arrive 10 to 15 minutes after dismissal. Students that ride a "late bus" will report to the cafeteria and wait for their bus number to be called. Late bus riders should not go outside at 4:10.

Car Riders

Car riders will be dismissed at 4:10 p.m. and should make their way to their ride as soon as possible. Please arrange a location to pick up your student prior to the first day. Parents should not block the bus lanes or the open lane during dismissal. Students should have a ride no later than 4:30 p.m.

Walkers

Walkers will be dismissed at 4:10 p.m. and should make their way off campus after dismissal.
