College & career readiness
What is CCMR?
College Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) is about preparing students for life after graduation. It is made up of curriculum, resources, programs and activities that help students have the tools they need to enter college or the workforce and begin a career. CCMR is integrated into the everyday culture of our district and is supported by state guidelines, partnerships with higher education organizations and businesses.
Check out the GISD CCMR page for more information!
GHS GO center
The counseling staff at Garland High School has created our very own Go Center. The purpose of the Go Center is to supply students with information on careers, college searches, scholarships, financial aid and more.
The GHS GO Center is devoted to helping students reach their full potential in high school and beyond. Our wonderful advisor over the Go Center is Victoria Ceballos. She assists students with SAT/ACT registration, college applications, FASFA/TASFA, and scholarships.
Get on the road to graduation and launch your post-secondary dreams. Visit the Go Center today!
GISD ready
Students build life skills and complete several of the steps necessary to land a college acceptance letter or job interview. Visit GISD College & Career Readiness Info on the district site for more information.
The state of Texas requires that students take college readiness assessments to determine if they are ready for college before they can take any college classes. There are three college assessments that can determine a student’s level of college readiness:
-
TSIA 2.0
-
SAT
-
ACT
Students who meet College Readiness standards established by the state of Texas can seamlessly transition to college without requiring remediation classes. Remediation classes cost students both time and money since they have to pay for courses that do not apply to a degree or certification before accessing the college-level classes they need to take.
