Success at the District 11 DECA Competition

DECA, an organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, hosted the District 11 Career Development Conference in Irving, TX this week. The Business, Marketing, and Finance students from the DECA Charter Chapter at the Gilbreath Reed Career and Technical Center (GRCTC) impressed with their knowledge and skills, securing a spot in the DECA State Career Development Conference in March.

Out of hundreds of participants, only Andrew Nguyen (Entrepreneurship), Monica Martinez (Retail Merchandising), Anahi Acosta (Retail Merchandising), Gabriel Pedraza (Retail Merchandising), Peter Aguilar and Leslie Rivera (Hospitality Services Team), Beth Ruiz (Sports and Entertainment), and DeShonay Merchant (Retail Merchandising) advanced to the state level. They took a 100-question multiple-choice career cluster exam and participated in a hands-on role-play or case study, where they had to apply their skills and knowledge in real-world scenarios, judged by industry experts.

The students will represent GRCTC at the DECA State Career Development Conference, taking place in Dallas, TX from March 9-11, 2023. The DECA Advisors, Amy Bauer (Marketing), Alicia Fernandez (Business), and Jenifer Zihlman (Finance), played a key role in preparing the students for success.

We wish the students and advisors the best of luck at the state level and are proud of their achievements at the Gilbreath Reed Career and Technical Center.
