Library procedures

books displayed that are being read in the library

Every student visits the library once in a week in their special rotation. The library is open all day for students needing to check books out. Books are due one week from the day checked them out, but can be renewed.

Texas bluebonnet award

Every year, the Texas Library Association selects 20 books (published in the previous year) that represent the best in children’s literature. Students in 3rd-5th grade who have read five of these books are given the opportunity to vote for their favorite title. The results are collected throughout the state and a state winner is named. At Heather Glen, rewards are given for every five books read.

Grab-a-Book

Every month, students are given a reading log. If they read 20 minutes for 20 days in a month, they qualify for Grab-a-Book prizes. There are also special rewards throughout the year for students participating in this program.

Battle of the Books

Every spring, students in grades 2nd-5th grades have the opportunity to vote for their favorite book of the year. So far, Dog Man books have won every year!
