eBooks
The library now has eBooks that students can read on a computer or tablet device. Access to an eBook is easy. Follow these directions:
- Login to the Hickman Library Catalog: User Name: Enter your student ID number (no “s") Password: gisd
- Click: Catalog
- Click: Follett Shelf (located on left navigation tool bar)
- Search or Browse By: Author, Subject and Genre
- Click: on book for information.
- Click: Checkout
- Click: Return early if you finish the book before it is due.
Checkout procedures
Every class comes to the library once a week. Students may keep their library books for one week. The number of books a student may checkout depends upon their grade level:
- Pre-K/Kindergarten – 1 book
- 1st-2nd – 2 books
- 3rd-5th – 3 books
Open checkout is daily from 8:00-8:20 a.m. for our independent readers in grades 2nd – 5th. (Additional open checkout times are available and vary for 4th and 5th grade students with passes.)
Texas Bluebonnet award
The Texas Bluebonnet Award encourages reading and is aimed towards 3rd - 5th grade students. Students are encouraged to read at least 5 books from the master list and then they are able to vote for their favorite book.
Book fair
The Hickman Library has book fairs , in the spring and Fall. Students are able to purchase books at the fair and online. The students really enjoy the book fair each year.

Online instructional resources
Online Instructional Resources are available to all students, teachers, parents, and administrators from any district or non-district computer.
