Volunteer

We encourage parents to get involved by volunteering.  Contact our Campus Engagement Coordinator, Sonya Palmer, for more information.

Eagle Volunteer of the Month

We have so many amazing volunteers that help make our school successful. While we appreciate each and everyone of our dedicated volunteers, we would like to recognize one volunteer each month who goes above and beyond.

This month, we would like to recognize Mrs. Lawrence for all of her hard work. Mrs. Lawrence heads up our "Walk-up Wednesday" volunteer program, as well as helps out weekly with the sight word program.

Partner with Hillside

The Garland Independent School District encourages parents, guardians, and patrons of our district to become an active part of the success in our schools by sharing your time and talent as a volunteer. Visit the district's Volunteer web page for more information about opportunities to volunteer.

  • All parents and community members who would like to volunteer must provide a photo ID to the front office to sign in using the Raptor Visitor Management System and indicate their desire to volunteer.
  • The office staff will provide instructions to complete an online application.  Applications can be completed at home or in the main office of any campus.
  • A criminal history check will be completed by the District. An email will be sent to notify you when you may begin volunteering.
  • A Campus Engagement Coordinator will contact approved volunteers about opportunities.

Volunteer opportunities

Here at Hillside we have several opportunities to partner and volunteer.

PTA

Help with Family Fun Fitness night, Daddy/Daughter Dance, Amazing Race and more!

Walk up Wednesday

Each Wednesday afternoon, we have projects from teachers and staff that can be done by volunteers in just a few minutes. Come to the cafeteria between 2 and 3 p.m. to pitch in.

Help our teachers free up the time they spend doing these small tasks so they can focus their efforts on the big task of helping our children achieve their potential.

Classroom Teachers

The sight words program will be starting up soon. If you are interested in helping out with the K-1st grade sight word program, please contact Jennifer Rodgers, PTA.

Library

Our librarian is often in need of volunteers to help out with various tasks. A great need for volunteers is the upcoming book fair in February. If you are interested in volunteering for the book fair, please contact Mrs. Gourd.

Financial Support

If you would like to help our school out in a financial way, please check out the DonorsChoose website. Currently, our librarian has 2 projects on the website that are eligible for funding.

Donations

  • If you would like to make donations to the school, please contact Mrs. Gourd or your child's homeroom teacher to find out needs for the classrooms.
