Growing readers with grants

Thanks to the Garland ISD Education Foundation (GEF) for funding two grants written for our book vending machine. Not only did these grants restock our machine with popular titles, but it also renewed student excitement for earning tokens for use in the machine. Our Hudson Hawks are excited to build their own home libraries with these books, and we are grateful for the opportunity to promote literacy in such a fun and unique way.

Checkout procedures

Overdue and lost books

Overdue books

Fines are not charged for overdue books. If you need to keep a book for longer than 2 weeks, please recheck it. You may recheck a book up to 2 times, for a total of 6 weeks. If the book has not been returned or renewed for 30 days, it becomes a lost book.

Lost books

If a book is lost, the student will need to pay a replacement fee. It is the student's responsibility to talk with the librarian to find out the price for replacing the book.

The replacement fee may be paid in cash or a check can be made out to Hudson Middle School. This money goes into a book fund where replacement books and new books are purchased.

Found books

If you find a library book that was already paid for, you will receive a refund. Your refund will come back as a check from our front office. Note that this process may take up to 2-3 weeks.

eBook collection

Students can check out eBooks from Destiny Discover or MackinVia and read them on their electronic devices.

Parent Library Portal

Parents may access a portal to see their child's library records, books in the library, or restrict titles. Visit the Library Parent Portal page to learn more.

Library materials under consideration

The Garland Library Services department follows state law and is committed to maintaining an open and transparent ordering process for library materials. See the link below to review library materials that are currently under consideration for purchase. The lists will be available for public review for at least 30 days before final board approval.

Online instructional resources

Online Instructional Resources are available to all students, teachers, parents, and administrators from any district or non-district computer.
