Watch D.O.G.S. is a one-of-a-kind, school-based father involvement program that works to support education and safety. Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer at least one day a year. A variety of school activities are assigned by the school principal or other administrator. These men serve as positive role models, encourage and inspire students, and even increase school safety.
To learn more, please visit the Watch D.O.G.S. website.
Sign up for the 2019-20 school year by emailing Charlotte Ballard, Counselor and Watch D.O.G.S. School Liason, who will provide a detailed schedule and information about the day. Watch D.O.G.S. are welcome most Fridays during the school year.
Follow KAE on Twitter
Looking for the latest information about Kimberlin Academy? Want quick, timely updates sent straight to your computer or cell phone? We can provide all of that! Kimberlin Academy now uses Twitter to share information with parents. Twitter is a free social networking site that allows users to send updates, or “tweets,” to multiple followers. GISD launched a district account in 2011.
KAE has launched its own Twitter account to share our campus news. If you are already a Twitter user, follow GISD at @gisdnews and Kimberlin at @KA_Knights to start receiving updates. If you don’t have a Twitter account, or don’t want one, don’t worry. There are two ways to stay “in the know.”
Log on to Twitter and follow the instructions to sign up for a Twitter account. Once you’re a Twitter user, search for gisdnews and KA_Knights to then click the “Follow” button.
Receive text messages in lieu of signing up for a Twitter account. Text “Follow @gisdnews” and “Follow KA_Knights” to 40404. Tweets will be sent as messages to your smart phone (standard messaging rates apply). You can turn off the updates at any time by texting “Stop @gisdnews” and “Stop KA_Knights” to 40404.
We are excited about using Twitter to communicate in a new and more immediate way with our parents! Let us know if we can help you get your account set up.
Using technology to connect
Integrating technology in our classrooms is a major focus at Kimberlin. We are fortunate to have a variety of tools to work with - updated computers, webcams, tons of software, and an iPad cart for every grade level! If you don't know what some of these are, ask your student to explain how they are used in class! Kids can create real world products and have fun with up-to-date technology, and they love it!
Computer & online programs used
At Kimberlin we have two full size computer labs with 30 computers in each.
Need computer access?
To assist our families that may not have internet access at home, our Computer Lab is available to you by request. The GISD Firewall will block some internet searches and all external email accounts. Please check in with the front office before coming to the lab.
Cyber safety…search with KidRex
KidRex is a fun and safe search site for kids! KidRex searches emphasize kid-related webpages from across the entire web. They are powered by Google Custom Search™ and use Google SafeSearch™ technology to screen for sites containing inappropriate content. It then deletes them from your child’s search results. Google's filter uses advanced technology to check keywords, phrases, and URLs. No filter is 100 percent accurate, but SafeSearch™ should eliminate most inappropriate material.
You can set it as your home page so kids search through it rather than the world wide web.
Check out KidRex to help with cyber safety in your home.

Student accident insurance
Parents need to know:
- By law, the school district does not provide insurance for the students.
- The medical costs associated with student injuries that result from accidents are the responsibility of the parents or guardians.
- The student accident insurance is available and does not have a deductible. It will pay even if there is other insurance.
Student Accident Insurance is available to students registered with GISD. An application and claim forms are available online.
