Principal's Message

Welcome to Vernal Lister Elementary, home of the Lions! I am honored to serve as the new principal and thrilled to join a school with such a proud legacy of excellence. Over the past 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in Garland ISD in a variety of instructional and leadership roles. Each experience has strengthened my belief in the power of equity, high expectations, and strong relationships to transform student success.

As Lister’s principal, I strive to lead with purpose,  be visible, approachable, and collaborative. I look forward to partnering with our incredible staff, dedicated families, and the wider community to ensure all students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

I am a wife and mother, and a proud member of a large family that overcame socioeconomic barriers through the power of education. My family and faith are at the heart of who I am and continue to keep me grounded and inspired in this meaningful work.

It is a true privilege to serve the Lister community. I look forward to an amazing school year as we celebrate 30 years of excellence and continue Roaring Through Decades together!

Assistant Principal’s Message

Hi Lister Lions!! My name is Kenia Green, and I’m beginning my 2nd year as the proud Assistant Principal of Lister Elementary. I grew up in Garland ISD, attending Handley Elementary, Brandenburg Middle School, and South Garland High School. My teaching career started as a classroom teacher across various grade levels.  I then moved into the role of Instructional Support Teacher for three years. I earned a Masters in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

On a personal note, my husband and I are the proud parents of twin ten-year-old daughters and twin sixteen-year-old daughter and son.  I love to spend time with my family as well as traveling, and watching TV and movies.

I love elementary! We get to see so many firsts and create an enduring love for learning and school. I look forward to working together to positively impact our students' journeys as we celebrate 30 years of excellence together!

"Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be."
