All students must have up to date immunizations by the first day of school. By law, the district must have an immunization record for each student on file. These records should be up-to-date at the time of registration. Records must show the month, day and year of each dose of vaccine and must be validated by a physician’s signature or a public health clinic card. Children entering Garland ISD for the first time must present written verification of the required immunizations at the time of enrollment.

Luna Elementary requires all PreK-5th grade students to wear standardized clothing. Standardized dress is made up of clothing that meets a particular description but is not a specific brand of clothing. Any brand is fine as long as no logos or brand names are visible. The students may select to wear any combination of the pieces listed below.

  • Coats and Jackets may only be worn entering school, leaving school, and on the playground. If your child is cold in the classroom or halls, he should bring a sweater or sweatshirt that follows the standardized dress guidelines.

Where can I find clothing for my child that will conform to the "standardized" dress policies?

Just about any store that carries children's clothing will carry items that will conform to the "standardized" dress code such as Walmart, Target, Kohl's, JCPenny's, Levines, Sears, the Dollar Store, etc.

No rolling backpacks may be used inside the school unless a medical reason exists and principal approval has been obtained.

Students may wear a Luna shirt, team shirt (for city league teams of Luna students), Boy Scout or Girl Scout uniform shirt. Jeans or denim shorts may be worn with any of these shirts. Students may also wear a standardized dress shirt with jeans or denim shorts. A student should wear standardized dress if he does not wear the clothing listed above.

As we help you prepare your children for the future, we want them to think about life after high school and cultivate healthy work habits that will assist them in their journey. On Where will you go? Wednesdays the students will be allowed to wear college shirts with denim shorts, jeans, or standardized dress shorts. (If they do not wear college shirts, they should wear standardized dress.) During the announcements each Wednesday we will highlight a college/university as well as emphasize organization and study skills.

Parents and family members are always welcome to volunteer with PTA. Volunteers must be registered with Raptor in order to be on campus and sign up with PTA.

All visitors must sign in at the office and wear a visitor badge. Please make an appointment with the school, or staff member that you are visiting prior to arrival. The staff has been instructed to question anyone not identified as an authorized visitor.

Bicycles, skateboards, or scooters MUST be walked on the sidewalk immediately in front of the school.

In the afternoon, students who walk out to the street to get in cars need to cross at the ends of the driveway rather than across the middle of the circular drive. There are crosswalks located at the end of the entrance and exit out front on Lochness. Please help us as we work to keep your children safe.

Phone message procedure

In order for parents to leave a message that makes a change in the child's daily routine, the parent will be asked to give the student's identification number before the message will be given. Please memorize this very important number and/or have it written down in several places. This procedure is necessary to ensure safety for our students. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation with this policy.

Attendance

Regular attendance is essential for your child to achieve and learn at their maximum potential. If your child is absent please send a note explaining the absence.

Parent communication

On Tuesday of each week a folder containing important information relating to assignments and activities is sent home with every child. Please sign the folder and return it the following day.

Student medication

All medication brought to school by a student must be prescribed medication and in a properly labeled bottle. All medication will be kept locked in the clinic. It is the responsibility of the student to report to the clinic to take his/her medication.

If your child will need to take an over-the-counter medication or a prescription during the school year, it would a good idea to take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the district medication policy and necessary permission forms. When you visit your pediatrician, you might take along a medication form for the doctor's signature if your child will require administration of a maintenance medication during the school day. This will authorize the nurse to administer it.

Emergency cards

It is vital to keep these cards current. If any information changes during the year, please notify the school with the changes. We must be able to contact you if your child has an emergency.
