2024 - 2025 Bison Game Schedule

O'Banion offers a variety of sports to the students at O'Banion. In the 6th grade, students may participate in an intramural soccer team. Students in the 7th and 8th grade may participate in football, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, soccer and track. Coaches, with exception of Coach Ballard and Coach TBD, have 4th period conference times between 11:30 a.m. and 1:10 p.m.

Our equipment

O'Banion offers many different ways for students in participate in athletics including physical education classes and a strength and conditioning weight room. The weight room is a great place for students and staff to work out.

Boys Athletics

Football

The 7th and 8th grade football teams are composed of approximately 45 boys each. Tryouts are in early August, and the football season lasts until late October/early November. Games are held on Monday and Tuesday nights. The 7th grade team practices in the mornings before school and during first period. The 8th grade team practices during 7th period and after school.

 

Basketball, aka The Hoop Squad

The 7th and 8th grade basketball teams are composed of approximately 15 boys each.  Tryouts are in early November, and the basketball season lasts until late January.  Games are held Thursday nights.  The 7th grade team practices in the mornings before school and during first period.  The 8th grade team practices during 7th period and after school.

Bison Soccer

All boys and girls in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades can participate in Bison Soccer.  O'Banion has an intramural soccer league that competes in the fall and spring season.  The league is composed of 8 teams:  Americas, Barcelona, Brazil, Chivas, Italy, Mexico, Real Madrid and Spain.  All students are welcome to join the league. Additionally, students are encouraged to try out for the Varsity Soccer team, which competes against other schools in the district

Track and Field

Track at O'Banion is open to all 7th and 8th graders.  The team competes at several district meets in March and April.

Girls Athletics 

Basketball 

Any 7th or 8th grade girl may tryout for basketball. Each team is composed of approximately 15 girls.  The basketball season runs from mid-November through January, and tryouts are held in early November. Basketball games are held on Thursday nights. 

Volleyball

O'Banion girls in the 7th and 8th grade may try out for volleyball at the beginning of the school year. The 7th grade and 8th grade teams are composed of approximately 15 girls each.  District volleyball games are held on Thursday nights from mid-September through November.  The teams also compete in several tournaments each year. 

Cheerleading

Any 7th or 8th grade girl may try out for cheerleading. Each team is composed of approximately 10 girls. Cheerleaders cheer at football games, basketball games, pep rallies and special special events. Tryouts are held in April for the next school year. The cheer coaches are Ms. Hardy

Soccer

UIL Soccer is available for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. O'Banion also proudly offers intramural soccer all grade levels, including 6th grade.

Track and Field

All girls in the 7th and 8th grades may try out for the track & field team. Track and Field practice begins in late January. Meets are held February through April.

Be a Garland ISD VIP
