Park Crest Elementary Library
Karen Nethaway, Librarian
Welcome to the Park Crest Library! We are here to help parents, teachers and students meet their reading and informational needs! The library has free check out every day so students may come to the library and exchange books as they need. Additionally, every class has a scheduled library time once a week. During this time, we read stories as well as practice reading skills students have learned in their classroom. Students learn to make predictions, inferences, and comparisons to other stories we have read. Students also sequence events in a story and analyze the parts of a story such as setting, characters, problems and solutions. We also help students become responsible digital citizens by teaching online safety and digital literacy. But most importantly, we want students to be excited about reading!
TEXAS BLUEBONNET AWARD PROGRAM
Students in 3rd - 5th grades are encouraged to take part in the Texas Bluebonnet Award Program. The program chooses 20 books each year to expose student to various genres. Students are introduced to all the books in class and, together, we read 5 selections so students can participate in voting for their favorite in January.
TEXAS 2X2 READING LIST
For younger students, we have the Texas 2X2 Reading List. A collection of 10 recommended selections for students 2 years old to 2nd grade is available for students to check out.
