Garland High School seeks to best serve its population and surrounding community via continual and consistent implementation of the school's mission and values to ensure on-going student growth and contribution to the community.

Garland High School was chosen as a pilot site for College Readiness Evaluation for Schools and Teachers (CREST), one of only thirty (30) high schools nationwide. CREST is a landmark study being carried out by the Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC), which is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
How Garland High was selected: EPIC set out to identify thirty high schools across the nation demonstrating consistent success in preparing students for college. Toward this end, EPIC asked education experts throughout the United States to nominate schools that provide programs and practices designed to prepare students for enrollment and success in higher education. In addition to the nominations, EPIC conducted a comprehensive review of the literature on college readiness to identify other outstanding high schools. The initial list of schools was then refined to identify the schools that appear to be the most focused on college preparation. This final sample of schools was selected to include schools enrolling students from a wide range of socioeconomic, racial and cultural backgrounds. In addition, the final sample includes different types of schools, schools with a variety of enrollments and schools in different regions of the country.
With a grant from the Texas High School Project (THSP, GHS initiated the Achievement Academy with the ultimate goal of making all of GHS students: College Ready, Career Ready, Life Ready!
