Volunteer in our Park Crest Garden!
Park Crest is deeply grateful for our community partners and volunteers who have and continue to make our school garden a success.
Nicholas and Kristy Burtner with School of Permaculture have been instrumental in all phases of this process. They started by educating our garden team on permaculture, which is a way of gardening that works with nature by mimicking natural ecosystems. After that, they worked with our team to co-create the garen design, have patiently answered dozens of questions, and assisted in person with our garden work days!
Reba Collins, with Keeping Garland Beautiful, is a Texas Master Naturalist. She lends her time and expertise in helping with our pollinator garden. In the beginning she assisted with native plant selection, layout, and certification as an official Monarch Waystation. Currently, she helps by answering questions, and providing ideas to bridge the curriculum with the garden!
Recently, we had great news when Melissa Youngquist moved to the neighborhood and reached out to volunteer at Park Crest. She has a PhD in biology and currently conducts research on wetland habitat preservation. She has started leading lessons with our fifth grade students in the garden three times a week!
We also grateful for our faithful parents and community volunteers who have assisted including but not limited to, John Pierce, Veyru Diaz, Dania Godoy, Blanca Gonzales, Leticia Martinez, Pureza Mata, Carlos Quezeda, Stephen Yearout and Melanie Hackett.
